Just a kid from Cleveland...
I started teaching art in the school year 1999-2000, all of them have been here at Still Elementary. Initially, I earned a bachelors degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, with a background in Art History. I stumbled into teaching after volunteering in a friends elementary classroom. I knew I had figured out a way to share my love of art with children by earning my teaching certification from Kennesaw State University in art education. The belief is that not only should children be able to have a hands on experience creating but they should also be able to speak about various pieces as well as gain a greater understanding about the role art plays in their life. Over the years I have completed a Masters degree as well as an Educational Specialist degree through Lesley University with an emphasis in Integrated Teaching Through the Arts. We now spend time bringing famous pieces of art to life through stories, poetry, drama and movement gaining a full Fine Arts experience in the room. My highest honor was representing Still Elementary as Teacher of the Year for the 2005-06 school year. What an honor to be recognized by a supportive staff.
While my family is still based in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio (Independence). I feel that I have found a home here with my dogs, Camper, Mister and Ricky Bobby in Marietta. I also volunteer with Atlanta Lab Rescue fostering dogs, so you will typically see me wrangling about three dogs on the trails around Cheatham Hill. Gardening has also become a side hobby of mine, but it has become hit and miss after having become a Teacher Master Gardener of Cobb County. I love sports but I am not very athletic but I have completed a Half Marathon with running buddies, Coach Balkema and Ms. Bramlett. The Peachtree Road Race has also become a tradition. I still cheer for my Indians, Cavs and Browns while attending local games of the Braves, Hawks and Falcons. I do not miss the snow but at times long for the summer days spent on Lake Erie.
